What did it achieve?
A new play and accompanying historical workshop activities created in collaboration with primary school children in Suffolk, based on Anglo-Saxon history.
What was the project?
We worked with 128 key stage 2 students in our co-creation workshops. They gave us creative ideas for the play and helped us understand what aspects of the history interested them.
We worked with 12 brilliant volunteers who gave us 287 hours of their time. 50% completed their Level 1 Makaton training, and 67% told us they felt they have a good understanding of Anglo-Saxon history as a result of participating.
Using the children's ideas and our own research we created a new play called 'Tangled with the Angles'. We performed it 21 time across 10 primary schools and 4 community venues in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. It was attended by 1142 people.
Our Heritage Officer and volunteers ran Anglo-Saxon craft workshops. 792 children participated, making clay pots, braiding belts, crafting jewellery and excavating 'poo'!
